Plot Summary

Unwind is set in a dystopian future where the Second Civil War has been waged over the issue of abortion.

As a result, a new law called the “Bill of Life” was passed which states that parents can choose to have their children “unwound” between the ages of 13 and 18.

Unwinding is a process where every organ, limb, and body part is harvested and transplanted into others, leaving the teen “unwound” and in a state of limbo between life and death.

The story follows three teens who are each facing the prospect of being unwound. Connor is a troublemaker who has been labeled as a “troubled teen”, Risa is an orphaned ward of the state, and Lev is a “tithe”, a child born and raised to be unwound.
